Activity
Construction & Demolition Survey 2005-06

To find out more about the type and quantity of waste produced by this sector, Environment Agency Wales, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund, undertook a C&D waste survey. This included collecting data from 228 demolition, construction, civil engineering and refurbishment companies in Wales on the amounts and types of waste produced by their activities.

General Information

Objectives
The primary aim of this survey was to produce an estimate of the quantities, fates and composition of C&D waste produced in Wales in 2005-06. Data was needed on C&D waste to inform the Welsh Assembly Government and Welsh local authorities on waste strategy targets and indicators; developing and monitoring regional waste plans; submission of data to Europe to comply with EC Waste Statistics Regulations and progress on Minerals Technical Advice Note19 (TAN) Wales for Aggregates. Other aims of the survey were to: - produce conversion factors to convert waste data from volume into weight; review current practices of planning and building control departments to provide an understanding of the part that they play in the C&D sector waste generation; review and make recommendations as to how the C&D sector measures and records the amount of waste it generates; review how the C&D sector manages hazardous waste.
