It is the largest (by surface area) body of freshwater in Britain, with a surface area of 71km2. The natural catchment area is ten times greater, at 781km2. The two main feeder rivers are the River Falloch at the northern-most point, with a mean flow of 6.8 cumecs, and the River Endrick entering on the south-eastern side of the loch, with a mean flow of 7.8 cumecs. They have markedly different catchments - the Falloch's is mountainous with a catchment area of 80km2, whilst the Endrick's is a typical lowland rural catchment of 220km2. There are distinct differences in the chemistry of the two rivers, reflecting the differences in the geology of their catchments. The Highland Boundary fault cuts across the lower part of Loch Lomond, but there is also a narrow physical restriction halfway down the length of the loch. For these reasons, the water chemistry and topography are quite different between the so-called Northern and Southern Basins.</ukeof:description><ukeof:responsibleParty><ukeof:individualName>Sarah Brown</ukeof:individualName><ukeof:organisationName>Scottish Environment Protection Agency</ukeof:organisationName><ukeof:postalAddress><ukeof:postalArea>5 Redwood Crescent</ukeof:postalArea><ukeof:postalArea>Peel Park</ukeof:postalArea><ukeof:administrativeArea>East Kilbride</ukeof:administrativeArea><ukeof:country>UK</ukeof:country><ukeof:postcode>G74 5PP</ukeof:postcode></ukeof:postalAddress><ukeof:role xlink:title="Lead organisation" xlink:href="http://onto.nerc.ac.uk/EF/leadOrganisation"></ukeof:role><ukeof:onlineResource xlink:title="" xlink:href="http://www.sepa.org.uk/"></ukeof:onlineResource></ukeof:responsibleParty><ukeof:involvedIn xlink:title="Environmental Change Network: Surface water chemistry and quality (freshwater sites)" xlink:href="https://catalogue.ukeof.org.uk/id/00e76830-efc8-11e3-ac10-0800200c9a66">Environmental Change Network: Surface water chemistry and quality (freshwater sites)</ukeof:involvedIn><ukeof:facilityType xlink:title="site" xlink:href="http://onto.nerc.ac.uk/EF/site"></ukeof:facilityType><ukeof:mobile>false</ukeof:mobile><ukeof:geometry ukeof:SRS="urn:ogc:def:crs:EPSG::4326">POLYGON ((-4.524 56.13,-4.566 56.14,-4.659 56.226,-4.578 56.237,-4.594 56.257,-4.678 56.29,-4.673 56.313,-4.59 56.331,-4.577 56.351,-4.636 56.391,-4.689 56.39,-4.716 56.374,-4.751 56.395,-4.793 56.38,-4.816 56.396,-4.854 56.371,-4.78 56.338,-4.791 56.334,-4.782 56.313,-4.837 56.291,-4.789 56.265,-4.784 56.25,-4.818 56.247,-4.806 56.225,-4.745 56.241,-4.717 56.234,-4.738 56.201,-4.729 56.18,-4.777 56.169,-4.788 56.154,-4.768 56.146,-4.786 56.103,-4.808 56.101,-4.775 56.05,-4.634 56.002,-4.607 55.968,-4.554 55.962,-4.515 55.983,-4.49 55.969,-4.442 55.971,-4.404 55.996,-4.296 55.968,-4.283 55.999,-4.3 56.018,-4.281 56.035,-4.242 56.016,-4.117 56.052,-4.092 56.047,-4.101 56.101,-4.191 56.073,-4.213 56.099,-4.365 56.078,-4.524 56.13))</ukeof:geometry></ukeof:facility>
